The Wilayat of Salalah is currently witnessing the implementation of the Automotive City project, which is intended to become an integrated and specialised destination for the automotive sector and related services in Dhofar Governorate.
The project is being developed on an area of 53,000 square metres, with the first phase costing up to RO 6 million. This includes construction and development works, as well as the preparation of the project’s core components.
Implemented by Al Amal Al Daim International Company in partnership with Dhofar Municipality, the project includes a wide range of activities, such as car showrooms and dealerships; maintenance centres; spare-parts, tyre and battery outlets; car-care services; financing and insurance companies; banks; and other supporting commercial services.
Faisal bin Alawi al Dheeb from Al Amal Al Daim International Company, said that implementation work on the project is progressing steadily, with the completion rate currently standing at approximately 45 per cent. The first phase is expected to be completed by May 2027.
Speaking to the Oman News Agency (ONA), Al Dheeb said the project aims to establish an integrated destination serving the automotive sector and bringing together the services users need in one location — from car showrooms, maintenance, spare parts and car care to financing, insurance, banking and other supporting commercial services.
He added that the project was designed for long-term leasing. During its first phase, the focus will be on developing a tenant mix and selecting activities and brands that add genuine value to the project while enhancing its appeal and sustainability.
He noted that Salalah was selected based on the economic, demographic and tourism advantages of Dhofar Governorate, alongside the expansion of commercial activity and growing demand for automotive services, particularly during the Khareef Dhofar Season.
He announced that preliminary reservations are now open for sites and leasable spaces to local and international companies and institutions wishing to join Salalah Automotive City. This will give them the opportunity to select suitable sites and spaces at an early stage, particularly because some activities require specific entrance and frontage specifications, internal areas and technical services.
He expected the project to benefit several related sectors, including contracting, supply and technical services during the construction phase, followed by operations, employment, logistics, hospitality and marketing during the opening phase. The project is also expected to strengthen competition, improve service quality and provide consumers with a wider range of options. — ONA
